Caught in the Webb!

Nearly 7-and-a-half months after its Christmas Day Launch, the James Webb Space Telescope has sent in its first captures. Check them out here! — After nearly twenty years of development and more than half a year past its launch, NASA has finally released the first images captured by James Webb Telescope. The full-color images were released along with spectrographic data for these images, with President of the United States, Joe Biden, himself releasing the first image to the media.

The Celestial Sphere

Creating a map of the Heavens above! — As our curiosity made us make different theories about the Universe, we needed physical markings and models to test these theories. Additions and changes to these models formed the basis of the evolution of our knowledge. With this, today we have an internationally accepted system of markings and positions to…

Our Address in the Universe

This famous image was captured by the Voyager 1 spacecraft on February 14, 1990. See that tiny dot in the middle left? That’s the Earth. A speck of sharp color amidst an empty space. Every single thing that has happened to us — or ever will be (at least, in…

The Schrödinger Equation: A Mathematical Venture

Ask any quantum enthusiast the essence of quantum mechanics and the first thing they’ll answer would surely be Schrödinger’s Cat, the next? Probably the Schrödinger Equation. But what exactly is this equation and why is it so quintessential that it would be memorized on the tongue of any quantum physicist…

The Fortune-Teller’s Paradox: A Quantum Detour?

A paradox is a sentence that contradicts itself. For example, one of the most famous paradoxes is the ‘liar paradox’ which goes by, “this sentence is false”. If arbitrarily, we take the statement to be true, then the statement becomes false. If we, on the contrary (or from deduction after…

Bell’s Theorem: The End of Hidden Variables?

In the year 1964, John Stewart Bell, a physicist, published an article titled ‘On the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen Experiment’, citing an apparent paradox discovered by three greats of Institute of Advanced Study, Princeton, namely Albert Einstein, Nathan Rosen, and Boris Podolsky. The paradox, known as the ‘EPR Paradox’, rejected the uncertainties of…

A Brief History of (Almost) Everything Quantum

In this article, I have summed up all the major/minor events in quantum history that have taken place so far, and possibly, a few of those which will take place in the not-so-distant future. A pre-starting point is to keep in mind is that the history of quantum mechanics has…
